What is e-book formatting?

There are several types of e-reader (Kindle, Nook, etc) and different file types are needed for each one. Just like a CD player takes CDs and a tape player needs cassettes, Kindles prefer e-books in mobi format and Nook reads epub (among others). E-book formatting is the process of converting the original file your novel was written in (rtf or docx) into an e-book format such as mobi, epub or lit so it can be read on e-readers.

 

What services am I offering?

I format your manuscript into mobi, epub, lit or pdf so that it can be sold via online retailers like Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble. You provide me with the manuscript in rtf, doc or docx and I send you back the converted files via email or on a CD.

 

Are my services right for you?

My e-book formatting services are for writers who want to self publish their book. It’s very easy to pick a price, have your e-book formatted and upload it to websites like Amazon. Once your e-book is formatted it should take less than an hour for you to have it available for sale.

Plenty of authors have earned thousands, if not millions of dollars doing just this. However self promoting a book is hard work and readers will judge you harshly if your editing is not up to standard.

If you believe you can promote your own work well and you are great at editing—or have hired a professional editor—then self publishing could be fantastic for you! If you feel you would be better off with a traditional publisher and a literary agent, I offer services that can help with that too.

 

What are my prices?

I charge $50AUD an hour to format e-books. This includes the time it takes to prepare the file for conversion, the conversion itself then checking through the manuscript, page by page, for any formatting errors and re-doing the conversion if there are any.

If a manuscript is well presented, I would estimate being able to do all four formats in two hours ($100AUD). Poorly or difficultly formatted manuscripts could take as long as three hours per format type—however I will always notify a client if I anticipate a job taking longer than usual.

Payment is required before the delivery of goods.

The payment methods I will accept are:

Personal Check (if in Australia)

I will not accept cash or overseas checks.
