Manuscript Partial Services
Last Updated 1st January, 2012
What is a partial?
A partial is typically the first three chapters and a complete synopsis of your manuscript.
When a literary agent has liked your query, they will typically ask for a partial. Some publishers require a partial instead of a query. When you begin to seek representation or a publisher for your manuscript, it is always a good idea to have the partial polished ready to go as soon as it is requested.
What services am I offering?
I offer two partial services. One is an editing partial and one is a complete partial.
In an editing partial, you send me a partial (synopsis and chapters) you have written yourself and I give you feedback for recommended changes and help you tighten and hone your partial until it is perfect.
In a full partial, you send me a long synopsis of the novel, which I will then edit down into a tight, well written one page synopsis. I can then either give you feedback on the first three chapters, or simply alter them as I see fit and give them back to you.
I am happy to mix and match on these options. If you only want chapter feedback, or you only want help with the synopsis, I can accommodate.
Are my services right for you?
If you have finished your novel and you do not have an agent and publisher or are seeking a new publisher, then yes. My services will be of great help to you.
I can also help you if you are trying to prepare a partial for an un-written novel at the request of a publisher.
What are my prices?
I charge $50AUD an hour for my services.
Given my partial services are so varied and depend greatly on the project and the quality of the work; it is difficult for me to give an accurate estimate. If you have a budget in mind, let me know. I will never charge more than a set budget limit. On average, it would take me between two and three hours to completely re-write a synopsis.
